The Ceremony of the "Grito de Independencia" is one that is close to the hearts of many Mexicans, no matter their age, background, or creed.

"Growing up in Guadalajara, Jalisco and participating in "El Grito" as a child, represented independence and orgullo (pride) for the people who fought and risked their lives a cambio de nuestra libertad (in exchange for our freedom). Viva Mexico!" Assistant Dean Patricia Gonzalez says.

Like her, many people share similarly beautiful family memories of the day. Some recall precious moments, others special rituals. The Ceremonia of El Grito de Independencia will be celebrated all around Mexico this upcoming 15 of September, 2025.

This year the Latin American and Latinx Studies Center, along with the Consulate of Mexico, is honored to present the Ceremony on September 10th.

LALSC is grateful to the Spanish and Portuguese Department and CDMI for their support.
