Regulated Building Materials
Buildings on campus can contain materials and components that, if disturbed, can pose a hazard to workers and occupants. Those materials which can pose a risk to human and environmental health are regulated by law, but do not pose a risk to human health if left undisturbed and intact. Regulations and best practices define requirements for the management, mitigation and disposal of these materials whether they are to be maintained in place, renovated, or demolished.
EH&S works with facility operations staff to ensure these materials are managed appropriately and assists project managers with communicating the known hazards associated with campus buildings to contractors to ensure any work which will impact these materials is conducted safely.
