The 91É«°É operates under an industrial wastewater discharge permit granted by the City of 91É«°É. No chemical waste or other hazardous materials are allowed to enter the sanitary sewers unless approved by the City of 91É«°É. The city’s Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) employs physical and biological processes to clean wastewater before it is discharged to 91É«°É Creek. The addition of chemicals or other hazardous materials could negatively affect the processes at the WRRF and cause pollutants to be discharged into the creek and violate the limits set forth in the city’s discharge permit from the state. For more information about the city’s water resource recovery program, please visit their and even schedule a tour of the facility if desired.
The EH&S department employs best management practices, conducts lab inspections, and samples the campus wastewater regularly to ensure that hazardous chemicals are not discharged into the drain, and the campus adheres to the requirements of the wastewater permit. If you work or study on campus and generate a waste stream that you feel is suitable for drain disposal, please contact EH&S at the phone number or email address below.
For more information or to report the release of hazardous materials, please immediately get in touch with the EH&S Department at 303-492-6025 (or CUPD at 303-492-6666 during non-business hours). For non-urgent inquiries, please contact EH&S via email at ehs@colorado.edu.
